Gervais recorded a 49-second video to raise Leeds legend Burrow’s spirits after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
It has been seen more than one million times, even though the funnyman pokes fun at the man who set up the message for his fellow fan of sitcom The Office.
Gervais says: “Alright, Rob. Your mate Stevie Ward got in contact, and said you were a big fan — thank you.
“And would I say a few words, which is good of him … or is it? No skin off his nose, is it?
“Would I call your mate Stevie up and say, ‘Alright Stevie, you’re a rugby player, would you come round to my garden and run around with a b****ck shaped ball for an hour?’

“No I wouldn’t. So here’s a few words, tell your old mate Stevie to keep his good ideas to himself in future.”
Now Rhinos skipper Ward is ready to give Gervais a show – whether he wants one or not.
And being the victim of his acerbic wit is no problem whatsoever as it helped raise more cash for an appeal that has topped £290,000.
Ward said: “I plan to go and find Ricky’s garden and make up for how much effort he has put in with a few laps with a ball because it’s no skin off his nose to watch a training session in his back garden.
“From when I first met Rob, he couldn’t believe I knew more Office quotes than him, we could apply Office quotes to any situation we found ourselves in.

“We have had a WhatsApp group that is only allowed to have Office quotes in it and now that group has people from across the game in it.
“It was perfect in my eyes because it raised awareness and funds for Rob in a way that really fits Rob’s own sense of humour.
“The link to donate has been clicked on nearly 15,000 times which is amazing and as of Friday afternoon it had had nearly 1.5 million views.
“The fact that it was at my expense made it particularly special for Rob and I have not one ounce of a problem with that.”
